Brava for Slack: setup guide

How to install the Brava Slack app, what it reads and stores, and how Brava uses AI. See what Brava does in Slack.

Install the Brava Slack app

Slack installs from inside Brava, so you sign in first. Don't have an account yet? Contact us and we'll set up your organization.

  1. Sign in to Brava as an admin at app.getbrava.ai. Only admins can connect Slack.
  2. Open Admin Settings and choose the Connectors tab.
  3. Find Slack and click Connect. Choose Add Brava to public channels, or I'll pick channels to choose them yourself.
  4. Slack opens in a new tab and asks you to choose a workspace and approve Brava's permissions. Approve them.
  5. Slack returns you to Brava, which confirms the connection. If you chose to pick channels, click Manage channels to add Brava to the ones you want, or use /invite @Brava in Slack.
  6. Optionally, back in Admin Settings, choose a channel for public shout-outs and turn on Automatic Directory Sync to import workspace members. Anyone in the workspace can start a DM with the Brava app.

To remove Brava from a channel, type /remove @Brava in it. To uninstall, a Slack workspace admin removes Brava from the workspace's app management page in Slack. To have the data Brava collected deleted, email us.

What Brava reads and stores

Reads
Every message in the channels Brava is a member of: public channels it has been added to, and private channels only by invitation. Also messages sent to Brava in a DM, and messages that mention Brava. Workspace member profiles: name, email, title and photo.
Never reads
Direct messages between people.
Stores
Channel message text is deleted within a few hours of a conversation going quiet, once it has been turned into suggestions. Suggestions you don't submit are deleted after 30 working days. Submitted feedback and imported member profiles stay in Brava with your organization's account.

About AI in Brava

Suggestions and summaries in Brava are written by a large language model and can be inaccurate or incomplete. Check them against what actually happened. You review and edit every suggestion before it is sent. Brava uses OpenAI under an enterprise agreement that excludes API data from model training, and does not use Slack data to train AI models.
